Chosen Charities for the Winter 04/05 Season is:
Continuing to supply needy equipment for the
Springwood Day Centre
as well as our
Ongoing Nebuliser Appeal
Springwood
The Springwood Day Centre for adult special needs is a Social Services run centre in the St. Anns area of Nottingham. It caters for profound adult needs in a similar way to Barncroft at Chilwell. (Many will remember that Barncroft benefited from the fundraising of the Leagues during winter season, but for those who are in the dark over this please check out the Evening Post news report on the "In the News" page or click the link below) Springwood, although supported by the Nottingham Social services, are on a limited budget and often have to turn to fund raising to provide extra equipment and facilities. They turned to our darts leagues and requested our help in securing funds to provide much needed equipment such as Adult bean bags, Aprons, Aromatherapy equipment etc. Both the Leagues fully supported the cause prompting our General secretary, Dave Bennett-Bull, to reply to Springwood to the effect that we would be happy to help raise funds on their behalf. Dave explained that it may take a few moths to raise the funds but once we have done so he would invite representatives along to join the committee in the purchase of the necessary equipment. Springwood were so delighted with the response that they sent two representatives from the centre to the Nottingham Central darts league meeting on Sunday 9th June, to thank the members of the league and also asked that their thanks be conveyed to the Beeston, Chilwell & districts League too.

The Nebuliser Appeal
The Nebuliser appeal has been ongoing for several years and it was agreed that this be continued throughout the present summer season. It is a well known fact that Nottingham is a City with a high rate of sufferers of various kinds of breathing disorders. In many cases access to a nebuliser is a necessity for some sufferers but, due to the demand, many hospitals and local surgeries have a waiting list for this equipment often leaving patients in sufferance and distress. So far the Nottingham Central Darts league has supplied six nebulisers not just to members of the league but also to members of the local community too. This equipment provides quick access to relief for these people and the leagues members have been quick to realise that their are still many sufferers within the locality in need of these machines. The new type also come with in-car adapters too. The nebuliser appeal is now ongoing and if members of the league need to propose a recipient for a nebuliser it must be remembered that ALL applications must be accompanied by a Doctors letter stating the necessity for the equipment.
